Here at the FemTechnology Summit we believe innovation in women’s health needs to take a 360 approach (and be tackled from the research side, in industry, by consulting patients and adapting clinical practices). That’s why we love featuring startups tackling all aspects of female health – from diagnostics to therapeutics to management and even community.
Here’s a round-up of exciting FemTech startups helping manage period pain / menstrual cramps (and about time too!):
Menstrual Cramp FemTech Startups:
Ovira: Based in Australia, this Startup’s tentpole product is a TENS machine (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation machine) – that works by applying a small electrical current through two compression pads placed over the love handles where the nerve roots that supply the sensory fibres to the uterus are found. Once in place, the stimulation prevents pain signals from travelling to the brain, causing the muscles in the uterine area to relax and resulting in pain relief.
The medical industry has been using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) technology to treat pain for decades. Noha decided to use the system to treat periods. How ingenious is that? We can only give a massive shoutout to Ovira’s Founder, Alice Williams, for coming up with the innovation.
Daye, A UK FemTech company, whose CBD Tampons are intended to ease menstrual cramps, by administering CBD directly to your vaginal mucosa, providing localized pain relief.
